Danger find in garden.Residents were evacuated and roads sealed off after a wartime grenade grenade (grĭnād`), small bomb filled with explosives, gas, or chemicals and either thrown by hand or shot from a modified rifle or a grenade launcher. Grenades were in use as early as the 15th cent. was found in the back garden of a Hartlepool house. The discovery of an ageing stick grenade was made early yesterday morning when residents were clearing the garden in Ashgrove Avenue. Police moved residents out of 82 homes in the street and nearby Haswell Avenue while Army bomb squad experts were called in.
