Danes pull out of coal plant plan; ENERGY.


A DANISH energy firm said yesterday it had pulled out of a project to build a huge coal-fired power station in Scotland.

The planed 1,600 megawatt plant at Hunterston on the Clyde would be capable of powering up to two million homes.

The Danish state company Dansk Naturgas A/S was founded in 1972 to manage resources in the Danish sector of the North Sea. After some years, the company was renamed to Dansk Olie og Naturgas A/S (DONG).
 pulled out blaming the "financial situation".

Green groups welcomed the move and vowed to step up pressure on DONG's partners, Britishbased Peel Energy, to scrap the scheme altogether.
