Dane held for 'shooting Israelis'.

Danish police have arrested a man on suspicion of shooting and wounding two Israeli salesmen at a shopping centre in the central town of Odense Odense (ō`thənsə), city (1992 pop. 140,886), capital of Fyn co., S central Denmark, a seaport linked by canal with the Odense Fjord (an arm of the Kattegat). .

A court on Thursday ordered the suspect to be held for up to four weeks while police carried out an investigation.

Police said the suspect had denied attempting to kill the Israelis but acknowledged carrying a gun on Wednesday at a shopping centre in the city.

Jacobsen said the two Israelis had been selling haircare products when they

were attacked.

One man was shot in the arm and the other man was shot in the leg. Both are reportedly in a stable condition.

The attack came on the fifth day of Israeli air strikes against alleged Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip Gaza Strip (gäz`ə), (2003 est. pop. 1,330,000) rectangular coastal area, c.140 sq mi (370 sq km), SW Asia, on the Mediterranean Sea adjoining Egypt and Israel, in what was formerly SW Palestine. , prompting speculation in Danish media of a link to the on-going assault.
