 Davies salsa dancing is very much a family affair, writes Alison Young.

Despite being just 20, the dance student from Llanishen, Cardiff, recently started her own salsa classes - following in the footsteps of two of her aunties - Irene and Anna Constantinou, who already run classes in the city.

Although her classes at Llanishen Rugby Club may not have all the glitter and glamour of Strictly Come Dancing Come Dancing is a BBC TV ballroom dancing competition show that ran on and off from 1949 to 1998, becoming one of television's longest-running shows.

 when I realised that there weren't any dance classes in Llanishen," said Irene, who is in her final year of studying for a degree in dance.

"I'd just moved back to Llanishen and deciSded that I had to put that right and started my own salsa classes a few months ago.

"I love salsa and everybody that comes along and tries it seems to as well - it's a fusion of so many different influences from so many different countries.

"Anybody can do it - no matter what their age or ability. I go through the basic steps and then people can just put their own interpretation on it.

"It's very sociable - I always get my dancers to change partners so they can meet more people - although we always seem to be short of men.

s "The popularity of Strictly Come Dancing has definitely had a positive effect on my dance classes and all dance classes which is great."

Irene aims to perform and travel with dance when she graduates.

"I have danced all my life but it is really only in the last five years that I have taken it more seriously.

"It was my auntie Irene who taught me to be short salsa and who has really inspired me.
