The journalist graced the Lichfield Garrick Theatre's stage for a show, entitled An Evening With John Sergeant, to help kick off the theatre's 2009 celebrations at the weekend earlier this month. During his visit sculptor Peter Walker took a mould of John's hand which will be turned into a cast before being auctioned off later in the year for the National Literacy Trust. John Sergeant said: "I'm delighted to be helping to launch Lichfield's 2009 celebrations in honour of Samuel Johnson, and I'm really pleased the hand cast will be used to raise money." The cast will be on display at the theatre this summer before going under the hammer.
