Follow Ups on Recent Recommendations

Avon Inc. (NYSE:AVP) is one of the world's leading manufacturers and marketers of beauty and related products. The company has been unable to make much headway in recent sessions; however, the long-term chart appears to be highly bullish in that AVP is one of the few stocks that has been able to move into record-high territory in recent weeks. Earnings rose 11% to $171.5 million, or 71 cents a share, compared with $155 million or 64 cents a share a year ago. The results were 2 cents better than expected. Sales increased 8% to $1.63 billion from $1.51 billion.

Corinthian Colleges (NASDAQ:COCO) is one of the largest private, for-profit post-secondary education companies in the United States. It's chart pattern is highly bullish. This one has been in its own private bull market for several months now. It reported that student population increased 26% for the 2003 fiscal year ended June 30. Student population in same schools, those that have been in operation at the same time a year ago, increased 17%.

Fidelity National Financial (NYSE:FNF), through its branches, subsidiaries and independent agents, performs title searches and examinations, prepares certificates or abstracts of title and issues title insurance policies pertaining to titles of real property. The company rode the refinancing wave and the strong housing market to a doubling of profits and numbers well above estimates. Second quarter earnings jumped 121% to $248.3 million or $1.78 a share from $112.3 million or 90 cents a share a year ago. The consensus estimate was for $1.59 a share. Revenue surged 76% to $2.01 billion from $1.14 billion.

Nextel (NASDAQ:NXTL) provides a wide array of digital wireless communications services throughout the United States. The company posted better than expected second quarter earnings and raised its outlook for the year. Earnings came in at $281 million, or 27 cents a share, compared with $325 million, or 39 cents, in the year ago period. The results were 3 cents ahead of estimates.

Paccar Inc. (NASDAQ:PCAR) is a global technology leader in the design, manufacture and customer support of high-quality light-, medium- and heavy-duty trucks. The company posted better than expected second quarter earnings of $1.21 million, or 1.06 a share, up 68% from $73.7 million or 63 cents a year earlier. Sales rose 11% to $2.0 billion from $1.8 billion. The results easily beat Wall Street estimates of 98 cents a share.

Scientific Atlanta (NYSE:SFA) provides its customers with the products and services for advanced communications networks which deliver voice, data and video. Shares shot up 20% in a day after it reported earnings and revenue that flew by previous estimates. Net income was $47.4 million, or 31 cents a share compared with a loss of $15.7 million or 10 cents a share in the year ago period. The consensus estimated had called for only 19 cents per share. Revenue rose 3.6% to $404.2 million, again well above Wall Street's target of $363.6 million.
