 showbiz career.

He told last night's audience his multi-million pound success story was beyond his wildest boyhood dreams.

Days after his 45th birthday, Donegal-born Daniel told thousands of fans in the packed arena: "I could never have done this without your support.

"I think I can say without any hesitation or doubt that I would most likely class you as friends rather than fans."

It was Daniel's Christmas show with most of the second half taken up with seasonal music.

His wife of four years, Majella, appeared in a solo slot in the first half and then joined the backing choir for the Christmas songs.

And fans welcomed accordion accordion, musical instrument consisting of a rectangular bellows expanded and contracted between the hands. Buttons or keys operated by the player open valves, allowing air to enter or to escape. The air sets in motion free reeds, frequently made of metal.  and keyboard player Ronnie Kennedy, back in the band after open-heart surgery.

Daniel is on first name terms with many of his fans and made himself available after the NIA concert for any who wanted to stay behind for a chat.

"I have observed over the years friendships being made by people who never knew one another until the music brought them together," he said.

Daniel's programme included songs from his album Until The Next Time that he either wrote himself or with a little help from his friends.

And his long-time singing partner Mary Duff was on stage in duet and solo spots.

Daniel is already booked for a return visit to Birmingham on April 23 with the rock 'n' roll show that was a massive success at the NIA last year.

Daniel said: "We had such a good time that we decided to give it another run, but this will be the final time."

Verdict: *****
