Dalton Utilities awards $7.4 million I/A Series SCADA contract to Invensys Process Systems.

Dalton Utilities, Dalton, Georgia Dalton is a city in Whitfield County, Georgia, United States. It is the county seat of Whitfield CountyGR6 and the principal city of the Dalton, Georgia Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses all of both Murray and Whitfield counties. , has awarded Invensys Process Systems a $7.4 million contract for turnkey installation of Foxboro I/A I/A Interactive

 Series Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (application) Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition - (SCADA) Systems are used in industry to monitor and control plant status and provide logging facilities. SCADA systems are highly configurable, and usually interface to the plant via PLCs.  (SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) A process control application that collects data from sensors and machines on the shop floor or in remote locations and sends them to a central computer for management and control. ) systems, including Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), field instrumentation, and enclosures at more than 100 remote sites. These sites include pump stations, lift stations, tanks, gas rectifiers, and gas monitoring stations. Most of the RTUs are connected to the Command Center via the utility's high-performance fiber optic network. Several sites not being served with the fiber network are connected to the system via Invensys-supplied RF networks.

Invensys will also provide turnkey application engineering, construction engineering, field service, construction, and construction site management services for the project. This is the third turnkey automation project that Dalton has awarded to Invensys/Foxboro in recent years.

The utility is installing Foxboro I/A Series SCADA and process control technology as part of a comprehensive plan to automate and gather real-time information of all public utilities from a common, state-of-the-art Command Center. The SCADA system will also enable the utility's largest industrial users to get real-time information on their power consumption via the Internet.

Dalton Utilities supplies gas, water, electricity and wastewater treatment services to approximately 45,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers. The utility operates three primary water plants and three wastewater plants, as well as eight electrical substations and eight gas metering points.
