A mother and daughter team wrote this novel, first published in England, where the story is set. It tells of two young women. One is Naomi, the teenage mother who gives her baby up for adoption: the other is Carrie-Anne, the teenager, once that baby, who now wants to connect with her biological mother. She tells a friend, "I'd been screaming at the top of my lungs for someone to come and save me, rescue me from myself," Her friend wisely says, "No parent can do that. Your parents can fill you in on all that family history crap, but they can't give you a place in the world. I unfortunately am acquainted with both of my loving parents, and I'm still clueless clue·less

The most heart-wrenching story is Naomi's, the teenager with all the promise but with a hopelessly inadequate mother. Fortunately, she has a second family who are supportive of her and they help her have the courage to give her baby up for adoption. Her narrative won't fail to move YA readers.
