Dallas considers same-sex schools. (Notebook: education information from schools, business, research and professional organizations).


The Dallas Dallas, city (1990 pop. 1,006,877), seat of Dallas co., N Tex., on the Trinity River near the junction of its three forks; inc. 1871. The second largest Texas city, after Houston, and the eighth largest U.S.  ISD See IDD.  is looking into same-sex schools to help improve academics.

Superintendent Mike Moses stated in The Dallas Morning News that the idea would affect a small number of students.

The approach can benefit some students, proponents say, including Latinos, blacks, girls who are not affluent, and at-risk students The term at-risk students is used to describe students who are "at risk" of failing academically, for one or more of any several reasons. The term can be used to describe a wide variety of students, including,
  1. ethnic minorities
  2. academically disadvantaged

1. As stated or indicated by; on the authority of: according to historians.

2. In keeping with: according to instructions.

3.
 some research. Research also shows that about a dozen single-sex public schools exist in the U.S.
