Dallas Inner-City Games Launches With Star-Studded Celebration for Thousands of Inner-City Youth.

Local and national celebrities, professional athletes and community leaders will be on hand today for a special event announcing Dallas as the 15th city to join the Inner-City Games (ICG), a national foundation that provides inner-city youth with positive alternatives to gangs, drugs, and violence.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, National Chairman, and Todd Wagner, National Board Member and Dallas Chairman, will host a celebration show to honor more than 2,000 Dallas inner-city youth who are participating in summer and year-round after-school ICG activities this year.

The show begins at 2:00 p.m. Central Time at the Bronco Bowl, located at 2600 Forth Worth Avenue, and is open to the media and invited guests. Special celebrity guests who will be participating in the show and interacting with the children include:

The Dallas Inner-City Games (www.dallasicg.org) is sponsored by the Todd R. Wagner Foundation. "The Inner-City Games has grown into an organization that reaches more than half a million children each year in 14 cities across the nation," said Arnold Schwarzenegger. "Through the commitment and leadership of Todd Wagner, we are now adding our 15th city to the program and will be able to provide thousands of Dallas inner-city youth with opportunities and a chance at a better future."

The Dallas Inner-City Games offers a variety of summer and year-round after-school programs that reach children during the crucial hours of 3:00-7:00 p.m. when parents or guardians are typically still at work. Throughout the summer, the Dallas ICG has sponsored various sports, art and computer camps and activities in partnership with Dallas-area community organizations, including the Boys' and Girls' Clubs, Dallas Parks and Recreation, the Oak Cliff Boxing Club, Vision Regeneration, the Women's Museum, and the YMCA. More than 3,000 children have participated in the summer activities that include arts and crafts, basketball tournaments, bowling, boxing camps, chess tournaments, computer camps, field days, swimming meets and tap dancing. Throughout the celebration show, celebrity guests will recognize the children who have participated in these activities, and will invite some of them to showcase their skills on stage during a boxing exhibition, a poetry reading and a physical fitness demonstration.

MIRACLES Initiative Uses Technology to Teach Inner-City Youth Valuable Skills to Develop a Strong Mind and Strong Body

During the celebration show, Todd Wagner, co-founder and former CEO of Broadcast.com, will unveil MIRACLES (www.dallasicg.org/miracles.html), the new technology initiative of the Inner-City Games that introduces a unique approach to tackling the digital divide as it affects our nation's youth, especially in the inner-cities. This program uses technology as a tool to teach children the essential skills they need to become responsible, educated citizens and to better prepare them for future careers. Wagner intends to first implement this program in Dallas using concepts from the traditional corporate world, such as measuring individual performance and tracking program success, and then will replicate the program in other Inner-City Games cities.

"In today's new economy, more than 70% of all jobs require an understanding of technology," said Todd Wagner. "It is our goal to use technology and our internet-accessible core curriculum as the tools to provide inner-city children with a broad set of skills that will prepare them to pursue any type of career, whether it be in education, retail, healthcare or business."

Immediately following the launch celebration show, Todd Wagner and Arnold Schwarzenegger will discuss the national Inner-City Games Foundation and its plans to roll out the MIRACLES technology program during a press conference and media tour at the Park South YMCA, located at 2500 Romine Avenue.
