Dalkia Utilities Services, part of the Vivendi Group, has chosen CorVu Corporation's CorManage enterprise performance management solution to automate critical management functions. CorManage will also enable Dalkia to deliver enhanced customer services over the web and introduce the Balanced Scorecard solution later in the year.

CorManage was chosen over competitor performance management tools because of CorVu's commitment and partnership approach. "This wasn't a one-off project, we knew we were making a strategic purchase," explains John Elliott, financial controller for Dalkia Utilities Services. "We want the system to grow with us over the next few years so we can build up to using more sophisticated management information tools, such as the Balanced Scorecard. Dalkia is highly service-focused business operating energy plants to industry, the health sector and community heating projects. The company needed a reporting tool to augment its slow, inflexible and programmer-dependent reporting module bolted on to a heavily modified JBA MIS system.

CorManage's speed, flexibility and programmer independence has dramatically cut down the time and effort taken in the reporting process - what used to take days now takes hours at the most - and has opened up new opportunities for interrogating data.

Dalkia's core management reports are automatically converted into HTML for posting onto the company intranet. "This is a major step forward in reporting terms for us," says Elliott. "It dramatically cuts down the paper flow. The natural progression will be to web-enable CorManage using CorServer to give our customers CorVu on their desktops. This will give us the competitive edge in terms of customer service." Using a Windows browser, Dalkia's customers will ultimately be able to produce their own queries, reports and forecasts regarding the performance of Dalkia's utilities they rent.

The introduction of CorVu has been instrumental in the restructuring of the UK finance department. "Before, we had pockets of knowledge within the company," says Elliott. "There was our financial system, the field contract managers kept plant efficiency data and a separate planning system held data on labor hours. Reporting across all three areas and producing meaningful data was very convoluted and inefficient. CorVu sits above all these systems and pulls in data from all areas. Now we have the ability to produce more information with fewer people and the possibilities for better managing the company and servicing our customers grow day by day."
