Dalglish joy with Anfield return; Reds Academy director hails 'invaluable' Torres.

LIVERPOOL legend Kenny Dalglish Kenneth Mathieson Dalglish MBE (born 4 March 1951 in Dalmarnock, Glasgow) is a former Scottish international football player. He was famous for his successes with Celtic in the 1970s and with the English club Liverpool in the 1970s and 1980s.  completed an emotional Anfield return over the weekend, then spoke of the "invaluable contribution" of modern-day hero Fernando Torres Fernando José Torres Sanz (born March 20, 1984) is a Spanish football player currently playing for Liverpool. He was born in Fuenlabrada, a large suburban town south of Madrid and was the youngest player to play for Atlético Madrid and the youngest to become captain (at age 19). .

Dalglish will assume a senior role at the Liverpool Academy Liverpool Academy may refer to:

 and will also act as a commercial ambassador around the world.

"There''s a lot of work to be done and I will do whatever is asked of me. I''m just so pleased to be back," he declared.

Then he praised the work of striker Fernando Torres, who has enjoyed two sensational seasons on Merseyside since completing his club record move from Atletico Madrid almost two years ago to the day.

"Fernando has been invaluable to Liverpool Football Club in the two years he''s been here and he has made a massive contri bution, both in terms of the number of goals he''s scored and his sheer presence on the pitch," Dalglish said.

"A lot of people stood up and took notice when he scored his first goal for the club against Chelsea at Anfield because he took it so brilliantly.

"He''s since scored some spectacular goals, but it is his clinical finishing that I like.

"The numbers speak for themselves -you don''t need to add words to them.

"Fifty goals in 84 appearances is a phenomenal return, even more so because none of them have been from penalties or free-kicks."

Liverpool fans were also delighted by the confirmation of Dalglish's return.

Academy Director Frank McParland will now report to manager Rafael Benitez and Dalglish will play a key role alongside him in driving forward the development of the Academy.

Dalglish, who will be based at the Kirkby site, met with Benitez and McParland on his first day back at the club.

"I am really pleased to have Kenny as a part of the staff," said Benitez. "We were looking for someone who has a knowledge and a passion for the club and Kenny is the perfect choice."
