Daleen announces new Internet server.

BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 5, 1996--Daleen Technologies Inc. announced Tuesday the development of a new Internet server technology that employs the Java programming language to conduct business electronically over the World Wide Web.

Daleen, a fast growing Florida based high technology company, said the new product is named "Presence" and that it provides a highly secure accounting and billing system coupled with SUN Microsystem's revolutionary Java programming language.

"The product's name was chosen because it will give our customers an important presence on the Internet," said James Daleen, president and chief executive officer of Daleen.

"Our product is important because it combines in a single package all of the essential features that a business requires in order to conduct profitable and secure business on the Internet," he added.

According to Robert Morris, Daleen's director of Product Sales, Daleen has already licensed the Presence technology to another company, Sports International Ltd. This summer Sports International plans to introduce the first, fully operational, virtual casino to the Internet.

Morris said that Daleen is presently testing the links between Java and the Presence software. "We will begin shipping a version of the Presence for developers by June of 1996," he added.

The developer's version of Presence provides a robust programming environment for the rapid construction of "industrial strength" Internet business operations, Morris said.

Among the important features of the Presence server are its billing and accounting functions. These functions permit the operators of Internet businesses to charge money for the services and products they sell to shoppers while they are on-line.

Presently Daleen sells a Billing and Service Management System to telephone service providers. This product serves as the foundation for the Billing and Accounting functions that Daleen offers with its Internet Server product.

"We believe that Java programs will be delivered and priced in a similar fashion as other products sold by telephone service providers. Using our Billing and Service Management System, service providers can readily integrate Java based services into their operation," Morris said.

He added that Presence supports the development of Internet business solutions using other languages than Java. "But we think that Java is the best long term choice for a machine independent graphical user interface on the World Wide Web," he concluded.

Daleen Technologies Inc. is a privately held company operating in Boca Raton. It specializes in the development of software and hardware for the telecommunications and data-communications industry.
