A MARTIAL arts expert from Bedworth has become Junior Heavyweight Champion of the Midlands in Taekwondo at the tender age of 16.

Dale Glover of Furnace Road lifted the title in amazing fashion at the Kettering Leisure Village as he didn't concede a single point against him throughout the competition.

The teenager has been a black belt first dan for nearly two years and attends classes at Nuneaton's St Thomas More School in Greenmoor Road instructed by former world champion Nigel Banks.

Dale's sister, Kerry, is also a member and received her first degree black belt last October and the 14-year-old also looks set to have a very bright future in the game.

Father of the high-steppoing duo John Glover said: "The last two years Dale has been the pattern champion, but unfortunately he missed out this year which seemed to make him do better in his fighting.

"I'm delighted for him because he certainly deserves it and I'm sure both Dale and Kerry have very bright futures in the sport if they continue their rate of progress."

Dale's club college Chris Richards also showed off his talents by picking up a bronze medal in the Midlands middleweight category.

The club meets every Tuesday and Thursday in the main gym at St Thomas More School from 7pm and newcomers are always welcome.
