Daktronics to Provide New Video and Scoring Equipment for Northern Illinois University.

Daktronics, Inc. (Nasdaq:DAKT) has contracted with Northern Illinois University Coordinates:   to provide new video display equipment and scoreboards for the school's existing football stadium and for a new convocation center The Convocation Center is the name of several indoor arenas in the United States, many of them at universities:
  • Convocation Center (Arkansas State University)
  • Convocation Center (Northern Illinois University)
  • Convocation Center (Ohio University)
 to open in the fall of 2002. The value of the project is approximately $2.6 million.

Daktronics will upgrade the existing football scoring and video display system at Huskie Stadium It was originally known as "The House that George Bork built", but is now nicknamed "the Doghouse". On September 20, 1969, the Northern Illinois-Idaho game marked the state’s first major-college gridiron contest played on artificial turf. The Huskies won, 47-30.  with a new scoreboard that includes a ProStar(R) VideoPlus display measuring approximately 15 feet high and 20 feet wide. Installation for football is scheduled to be complete later this month.

The new convocation center will be home to the university's basketball teams and will host many other events. A Daktronics custom, eight-sided, center-hung scoreboard will be suspended sus·pend

 from the ceiling of the facility. Four sides will be comprised of scoreboard sections. The other four sides will be comprised of ProStar(R) video displays with sponsor panels above and below. The ProStar(R) displays will measure approximately seven feet high and nine feet wide. Overall dimensions of the center-hung scoreboard will be approximately 14 feet high by 22 feet wide by 22 feet deep. A unique wall-mounted display will also be installed in the facility. This display will incorporate a tri-color LED information display, scoreboard sections and backlit An LCD screen that has its own light source from the back of the screen, making the background brighter and characters appear sharper.  sponsor panels, and will measure approximately 12 feet high by 102 feet wide. Installation of the display system in the convocation center is scheduled to be complete by August 2002.
