Daktronics Chosen to Provide Scoring and Display Equipment at New San Diego Baseball Park.

BROOKINGS, S.D.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 20, 2002

Daktronics, Inc. (Nasdaq:DAKT) announced today that it has been awarded a contract to design and manufacture electronic scoreboards and displays for the new Ballpark for San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Coronado is across the bay. , future home of the San Diego Padres. The value of the contract with The San Diego Ballpark Builders is approximately $2.8 million.

Included in the project is the design and manufacture of the large game-in-progress display, using SunSpot(R) incandescent display technology, which will be a major component of the main scoreboard located above the seats in left field. This display will measure approximately 34 feet high by 80 feet wide (160 x 384 matrix with pixels on 2.5" spacing) and will be used to show current game information, lineups, statistics, graphics and animation.

On the club level fascia fascia (făsh`ēə), fibrous tissue network located between the skin and the underlying structure of muscle and bone. Fascia is composed of two layers, a superficial layer and a deep layer. , Daktronics will install two SunSpot(R) matrix boards (24 x 192 matrices with pixels on 1.5" spacing) for the display of additional team and player statistics. Five "mini-scoreboards" (48 x 128 light emitting diode See LED.  matrices with pixels on .90" spacing) will also be installed on the left field concourse.

On the field level, an additional SunSpot(R) incandescent display (72 x 832 matrix with pixels on 1.5" spacing) will be installed on the outfield wall in right field to display out-of-town scores. The existing Daktronics "pitcher's board" in Qualcomm Stadium Los Angeles/San Diego Chargers

 will be moved to the new ballpark and positioned behind the left field fence. Three additional "mini-scoreboards" will also be installed in the club level concourse.

Daktronics control equipment includes Venus(R) 7000 controllers for matrix display operation and creation of graphics and animation, All Sport(R) scoreboard controllers, and DakStats(R) baseball statistics Statistics are very important to baseball, perhaps as much as they are for cricket, and more than almost any other sport. Installation of the display and control equipment is scheduled for substantial completion by May 2003. The ballpark is scheduled to open for the 2004 baseball season.
