Dairy Crest's proposed acquisition of St Ivel Spreads business. (News & Installations).


UK chilled dairy foods company, Dairy Crest Dairy Crest Group plc is a major dairy products company in the United Kingdom. Its brands include Cathedral City cheese (which is made in Davidstow, a place in Cornwall which is not a City and does not have a Cathedral), Utterly Butterly, Vitalite, Clover, St Ivel and FRijj. , with leading brands Clover, Cathedral City, Frijj and Yoplait brands, have announced the proposed acquisition of the business and assets of the St Ivel St Ivel is a brand of dairy products in the UK. It began as a subsidiary under the ownership of the Unigate dairy company with most production sites in the south west of England and some in Wales.  Spreads business from the Uniq Group.

St Ivel Spreads comprises leading brands Utterly Butterly, St Ivel Gold and Vitalite, together with the UK licence for the Carapelli brand, and a well invested manufacturing facility in Liverpool.

Dairy Crest will also acquire an exclusive licence for the use of the St Ivel brand in perpetuity Of endless duration; not subject to termination.

The phrase in perpetuity is often used in the grant of an Easement to a utility company.

The acquisition is consistent with Dairy Crest's proven strategy of building the branded and added value elements of its business. St Ivel Spreads will be integrated into Dairy Crest's existing spreads and butter business, which continues to achieve good growth.

The acquisition is conditional on clearance being received from the Office of Fair Trading The Office of Fair Trading or OFT is a non-ministerial government department of the United Kingdom, established by the Fair Trading Act 1973, which enforces both consumer protection and competition law, acting as the UK's economic regulator.  and is subject to approval by Uniq's shareholders.
