 the Indianapolis Star, DaimlerChrysler, Stuttgart, Germany, will phase out production at its Indianapolis foundry Indianapolis Foundry was a Chrysler automobile foundry in Indianapolis, Indiana. The factory opened in 1890 as the "American Foundry Company" and was purchased later in 1925 by Chrysler and operated as a subsidiary.  over the next four years, culminating with the closing of the facility. The closing was part of a four year agreement between DaimlerChrysler and the United Auto Workers The United Auto Workers (UAW), headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, officially the United Automobile, Aerospace & Agricultural Implement Workers of America International Union  Union, one of seven plants approved for closure or sale in the pact.

The plant was purchased by DaimlerChrysler in 1946 and manufactures engine blocks and other components for Chrysler trucks and sport utility vehicles This page lists sports utility vehicles currently in production (as of April 2007), as well as past models. The list includes crossover SUVs, Mini SUVs, Compact SUVs and other similar vehicles. . The Indianapolis foundly had developed a stellar environmental record following a $225 million investment into the facility by DaimlerChrysler between 1998-2002.
