Daimler-Benz AG Signs Corporate Contract for CADSI Software.

CORAVILLE, Iowa--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 17, 1998--CADSI(R) (Computer Aided Design (application) Computer Aided Design - (CAD) The part of CAE concerning the drawing or physical layout steps of engineering design. Often found in the phrase "CAD/CAM" for ".. manufacturing".  Software Inc.) today announced that Daimler-Benz AG in Stuttgart, Germany has signed a corporate contract to implement DADS, CATDADS, and PolyFEM within the vehicle division. This contract is applicable to all Daimler-Benz divisions requiring mechanical system simulation software Simulation software is based on the process of imitating a real phenomenon with a set of mathematical formulas. It is, essentially, a program that allows the user to observe an operation through simulation without actually running the program.  for full vehicle simulation with flexible components. CATDADS provides full dynamic motion simulation embedded in CATIA A family of 2D and 3D CAD programs from IBM. CATIA was one of the first CAD programs to provide 3D solid modeling. The program was developed by Dassault Systems, a French aerospace company. , and PolyFEM enables engineers to perform structural and thermal analysis Thermal analysis is a branch of materials science where the properties of materials are studied as they change with temperature. Techniques include:
  • Differential scanning calorimetry
  • Dynamic mechanical analysis
  • Thermomechanical analysis

CADSI's expertise with CATIA was an important element in the agreement with Daimler-Benz.

Excellent correlation between the simulation results of a full vehicle with a flexible chassis, and measured test data were essential in the selection of DADS. The results substantiated the value of simulation in the design process and the accuracy of CADSI's software as a core design simulation tool. Daimler-Benz plans extensive use of CADSI's Consulting and Training services to assure rapid and effective deployment of the simulation software.

The objective of the vehicle division is to promote design simulation technology internally and extend its use in other divisions including Truck, Bus, and Advanced Research. CADSI's simulation software is currently used for many vehicle applications including suspension design, engine valve train Valve train

and cam design, comfort and handling studies, and more.

"CADSI's simulation software enables all departments at Daimler-Benz involved in multibody simulation to use the same analysis process from design to production," says Mr. Theodor Grossmann, Manager of Department EP/CFD. "CADSI's development partnership with CATIA provides us with seamlessly integrated simulation and analysis tools that are easy to use, and save us design time while reducing costs significantly."

"We are very excited that Daimler-Benz has implemented DADS, CATDADS, and PolyFEM as part of their full vehicle design and analysis strategy," says David Bird, Vice President of Marketing at CADSI. "This agreement solidifies acceptance of our strategy of Simulation Driven Design as an integral component of the collaborative engineering process for automotive design and manufacturing."
