Daily progress. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, commonly abbreviated locally as the Dem-Gaz or Demgaz, is a daily newspaper published in Little Rock, Arkansas. By virtue of one of its predecessors, the Arkansas Gazette finally replaced its notoriously user-unfriendly Web site last Thursday. Upon being redirected from www.ar demgaz.com to www2.arkansasonline.com, the new site promises a "use-friendly look that includes more stories, photos, interactive features and video." One thing that hasn't changed is the paper's steadfast policy of not giving readers news for free, a policy aimed at keeping circulation numbers up. "I really do think that young people are smart and that they have more limited budgets," Walter Hussman, publisher of the D-G, told Arkansas Business last fall. "So why would a young person subscribe to Verb 1. subscribe to - receive or obtain regularly; "We take the Times every day" subscribe, take buy, purchase - obtain by purchase; acquire by means of a financial transaction; "The family purchased a new car"; "The conglomerate acquired a new company"; a daily newspaper if they can get it for flee? We don't really charge for our Internet edition to try to generate a lot of revenue because we don't generate a lot of revenue doing that. We do it so we hopefully don't lose circulation." Although the site has somewhat modernized mod·ern·ize v. mo·dern·ized, mo·dern·iz·ing, mo·dern·iz·es v.tr. To make modern in appearance, style, or character; update. v.intr. To accept or adopt modern ways, ideas, or style. navigationally, it is still missing elements that have become fairly standard on news sites nationally. It doesn't offer any news updates on staff-generated news. Its only blog is that of the paper's religion editor. It does have an RSS feed Summaries of Web site content that are published in the RSS format for download. See RSS. of Associated Press Associated Press: see news agency. Associated Press (AP) Cooperative news agency, the oldest and largest in the U.S. and long the largest in the world. news, but that is readily available on innumerable other Web sites. The only free news content is dining and movie reviews. Arkansasonline.com is still experimenting with video. It has a staff videographer A person involved in the production of video material. Videographers shoot the images with a video camera (analog or digital) and may perform minimal or extensive editing of the resulting footage. and a partnership with KTHV-TV, Channel 11, for news video. |
