GAITHERSBURG, Md. and TOKYO--(BW HealthWire)--March 18, 2002

Gene Logic Inc. (Nasdaq: GLGC), a leading provider of genomics-based information products and services, today announced that Daiichi Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd. ("Daiichi"), a global pharmaceutical company headquartered in Japan, has subscribed to Gene Logic's for use in its drug discovery and development efforts.

Financial terms of the multi-year subscription were not disclosed.

Under terms of the subscription agreement, Daiichi's global researchers will access the BioExpress(TM) product, which will be applied directly to Daiichi's internal target identification and target validation initiatives.

The subscription agreement provides for broad deployment of BioExpress(TM) information and its related bioinformatics interface, the GeneExpress(R) Software System, used for data mining, analysis, indexing and visualization Using the computer to convert data into picture form. The most basic visualization is that of turning transaction data and summary information into charts and graphs. Visualization is used in computer-aided design (CAD) to render screen images into 3D models that can be viewed from all , across Daiichi's global research and development infrastructure.

As with all GeneExpress(R) subscription agreements, Daiichi will receive periodic content and software updates, as well as ongoing training and customer support to keep pace with Gene Logic's drive for continuous content growth and software technology development associated with its GeneExpress(R) product line.

Commenting on the subscription agreement, David S. Murray, Senior Vice President for Marketing and Sales for Gene Logic said, "We are very pleased to begin a long-term business relationship with Daiichi Pharmaceuticals.
