Dahlias, butterflies among topics at gardening events.

The Lane County Dahlia dahlia (däl`yə, dăl`–) [for Anders Dahl, 1751–89, Swedish botanist and pupil of Linnaeus], any plant of the genus Dahlia  Society will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Campbell Senior Center, 155 High St. Jeff Anderson from Mycorrhizal Applications will present an alternative option for strengthening and enhancing root growth and nutrient nutrient /nu·tri·ent/ (noo´tre-int)
1. nourishing; providing nutrition.

2. a food or other substance that provides energy or building material for the survival and growth of a living organism.
 absorption in plants.

Also, dahlia tubers will be sold to the public for the last time this year. Call 688-5769 or 345-1880.

A workshop on gardening to attract native butterflies will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Mount Pisgah Arboretum The Mount Pisgah Arboretum (85 ha / 209 acres) is a non-profit arboretum and botanical garden located within the Howard Buford Recreation Area (930 ha / 2,300 acre), between the Coast Fork of the Willamette River and the slopes of Mount Pisgah near Eugene-Springfield, Oregon, , 34901 Frank Parrish Road.

The cost is $25 for members, $20 for nonmembers. Pre-registration is required. Call 747-1504.

The city of Eugene will sponsor a composting
For the product of composting see compost
Composting is the controlled aerobic decomposition of biodegradable organic matter, producing compost.
 class from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the River House compost demonstration site, 301 N. Adams St. Free. For more information, call 682-5542.

Master Gardeners will answer questions from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the historic Shelton-McMurphey-Johnson House, 303 Willamette St., where "Gardening Through Time" is the current exhibit.

Admission is $3 adults, $1 for children under 12. For more information, call 484-0808.
