Daeyang's New Display Headset Designed for Entertainment, Mobile Computing and Commercial Applications makes Worldwide Debut at Comdex Fall 2000.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

COMDEX The former, premier computer trade show in the U.S. Although it grew into an end user event, it was originally created for dealers and distributors (it was the COMputer Dealers EXposition).  Fall 2000

SEOUL, Korea--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 6, 2000

The high performance, low cost headset debuting under the product name of Cy-Visor, utilizes MicroDisplay's LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) A technology used to make microdisplays for rear-projection TVs and head-mounted displays (HMDs). Each LCoS chip hosts a grayscale LCD shutter sandwiched between a cover glass and a mirror.  Display Technology to provide OEMs with a breakthrough Display Headset

For a virtual look into the future, visitors attending the Comdex show next week will see the finished models of "Cy-Visor", Daeyang's display headset (North Hall L 1649). The Cy-Visor headset, which is expected to retail at $ 800, can easily be connected to fixed or portable DVD players, notebook and desktop PCs, televisions, video tape recorders, camcorders, game consoles and a host of other devices, through its breakthrough design.

In approaching to the market, the Korean company, Daeyang E & C (KOSDAQ KOSDAQ Korean Securities Dealers Automated Quotations :33030)is working with its partner, northern California-based MicroDisplay Corporation to deliver the DH-4500, an SVGA (Super VGA) A screen resolution of 800x600 pixels. Third-party vendors extended IBM's VGA display standard and were the first to use the term. SVGA has also referred to 1,024x768 resolutions. It is found in almost every electronic product from handheld devices to mainframes.  backplane technology, the Cy-Visor display headset is fully immersive without the pixelization of the poly-silicon displays currently used in head-mounted displays (HMDs).

Flexible Interface Options, Comfortable Design

"The Comdex show is an important opportunity for OEMs, retailers and distributors to review the design, determine the appropriate fit for their applications and places orders for product delivery in the first quarter of year 2001", said Junuk Lee, President and Chief Executive Officer of Daeyang E & C. "Customization of the product design is available to OEMs committing to large quantities." The breakthrough in the interface solution allows the Cy-Visor headset to work with PAL, NTSC (National TV Standards Committee) The committee that developed the television standards for the U.S, which are also used in Canada, Japan, South Korea and several Central and South American countries. Both the committee and the standard are called "NTSC.  or PC applications. This means that consumers can purchase the headset from anywhere in the world. "Up until this point," notes Mr. Lee, "headsets have only been designed for a single interface."

The device is also unique in its ergonomics. The lightweight design is comfortable to wear for an extended periods of time by resting equally on and around the face. "Market growth for display headsets relies on the availability of high-resolution microdisplay that does not sacrifice picture quality, color, size or power," explains Daeyang's Mr. Lee. "MicroDisplay's full-color, SVGA microdisplay delivers this solution, enabling us to offer OEMs with high appealing end-user products that are suitable for computing and visual entertainment applications."

"This is the beginning of a new era of personal display products for commercial and consumer applications such as portable computing, DVD DVD: see digital versatile disc.

The combination of Daeyang's state-of-the-art, opto-mechanical expertise and MicroDisplay's breakthrough microdisplay technology will provide commercial and consumer users a high-performance, low-cost headset product."

Elements of the DH-4500

The core elements of the DH-4500 display headset are the optical system, the M002 display engine and the single ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) Pronounced "a-sick." A chip that is custom designed for a specific application rather than a general-purpose chip such as a microprocessor.  interface system, XS-FT-2

High Performance Display Engine

The HM002 display engine is a complete optical MicroDisplay module that includes the field sequential color MD800G6 SVGA microdisplay with 1.44 million effective pixels, providing a resolution-scaleable solution for various types of contents such as personal computer, game console, arcade gaming, immersive training DVD, video movies and virtual prototyping. The HM002's compact size, wide inter-pupillary distance (IPD) and comfortable eye-relief provides end-users with viewing comfort.

Free Curvature Prism Lens

The free curvature prism lens system used in the Cy-visor DH-4500 is 13.8 mm thick and weighs only 6 gram, and is the materialization of modern optical technology. This state-of-the-art free curvature lens reduces the total weight of the DH-4500, providing wearing comfort while greatly improving its optical performance and reproducing full SVGA natural colors.

World First multi-format ASIC (XF-FT1)

The multi-functional XS-FT1 interface ASIC support VGA & SVGA inputs from personal computers, plus the full range of video input standards including NTSC, PAL, SECAM (SEquential Couleur Avec Memoire, Sequential Color with Memory) A color TV standard from France that was officially introduced in 1967. Although development began in 1956, it took time to convert from the earlier French 819-line system.  and S-VHS (Super-VHS) A VHS recording and playback system that increased resolution from 240 to 400 lines and used a higher-quality cassette. S-VHS introduced the S-video interface, which separated the luma from the color (see S-video). . It performs several functions, including frame rate conversion, format conversion, de-interlacing and time-sequential conversion. The interface ASIC can be used in both monocular monocular /mon·oc·u·lar/ (mon-ok´u-ler)
