for IP Voice, Video and Data applications

Cabletron Systems (NYSE:CS) today announced that Daewoo Telecom, Korea, the computer manufacturing arm of the Daewoo Group, has selected a Cabletron high-speed Gigabit Ethernet solution to provide scalable, secure switching and reduce network downtime. In addition, the new communications infrastructure from Cabletron will allow Daewoo Telecom to deploy multimedia services, including video-conferencing and IP telephony.

H.K. Kim, MIS manager for Daewoo Telecom explains, "Daewoo Telecom's three major business units were located within disparate offices across Korea. Our plan focused on integrating our work environment into one office in Pundang, and to increase work efficiency by utilizing multimedia services. In order to achieve this, we had to provide a reliable, stable network infrastructure."

Daewoo Telecom utilizes Cabletron's application-aware SmartSwitch Routers (SSRs), which provide critical layer 3/4 features that are fundamental when deploying voice and video applications. These features include Quality of Service (QoS), prioritization and traffic management.
