DYNATECH COMMUNICATIONS ANNOUNCES CPX 802X INTERNETWORKING SERVER FOR WAN-LAN CONNECTIVITY

WOODBRIDGE, Va., Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Dynatech Communications will demonstrate at the InterOp Show in San Francisco (Aug. 25-27 at Booth No. 3117), the CPX 802x Internetworking Server. The CPX 802x is capable of LAN dial in/out and concurrent bridging and routing. A flexible, modular architecture supports multiple LANs and WAN connections with high throughput capabilities.
John Merryman, manager of business development, said: "With the CPX 802x Dynatech provides LAN connectivity (routing of IP and IPX) to low delay, high-speed Frame Relay or X.25 networks at speeds up to 2.048 Mbps (T1/E1). CPX 802x offers a high performance multiprocessor, multitasking architecture that is available as an expandable stand alone unit, or as a personal computer option board and software."
General manager of Worldwide Packet Switching Ed Bursk said: "The CPX 802x provides very cost effective LAN access to WAN networks by allowing up to 32 dial in IP or IPX connections while concurrently providing bridging and routing. Devices like UNIX hosts, modem pools, FAX servers and executive information services such as those provided by CompuServe, Prodigy and Dow Jones are easily and economically accessed through CPX 802x dial out facilities."
The compact stand alone CPX 802x access unit configuration with one Ethernet LAN connection supporting bridging/routing and one 2.048 Mbps WAN connection supporting PPP, Frame Relay or X.25 starts at $4,750. Options include interface modules to expand the unit to multiple LAN and/or WAN
connections and expansion up to 32 dial in/out ports. The

CPX 802x has an SNMP agent that may be managed by an SNMP workstation.
The CPX 802x configuration for operation within a personal computer is shipping now, and the new compact stand alone unit will ship within the next 30 days. The CPX 802x will include Token Ring support later this year.
