DWR, Boating and Waterways Highlight Lakes and Reservoirs Week.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- After a period of low water levels, many of California's lakes and reservoirs are full or nearly full, just in time for California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W).  Lakes and Reservoirs Appreciation Week, July 1-7.

Much of California depends on reservoirs for a stable, clean water supply, irrigation irrigation, in agriculture, artificial watering of the land. Although used chiefly in regions with annual rainfall of less than 20 in. (51 cm), it is also used in wetter areas to grow certain crops, e.g., rice. , hydroelectric generation and flood control.

In 2001, the California Assembly set aside the week of July 4th each year to recognize the important contributions made by the State's major lakes and reservoirs.

This year, California Lakes and Reservoirs Appreciation Week focuses on clean water. Activities co-sponsored by the California Departments of Water Resources and Boating and Waterways The list of waterways is a link page for any river, canal, estuary or firth.
