DWP issues request for proposals for electric shuttle bus system in harbor.

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 8, 1995--The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power is soliciting proposals for the operation and maintenance of a battery-powered electric shuttle bus system in the Los Angeles Harbor area.

The selected contractor will be responsible for operation of the three trolleys in the system in addition to daily vehicle inspections, battery charging and maintenance, collection of passenger fares and other activities associated with the success of the trolley program.

In operation since November 1992, the trolley system is a zero- emission public transit technology sponsored by the DWP, Los Angeles Harbor Department and Department of Transportation.

The trolley operates daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. along a six- mile route with a round trip time of 30 minutes and a cost of 25 cents per ride. Stops along the way include the World Cruise Center, downtown San Pedro and Ports O'Call Village.
