DWP Power Hitter Competition Scores a Home Run With Local Kids.

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 20, 2000

Hundreds of children competed today at Hansen Dam Hansen Dam in Los Angeles County, California was built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Los Angeles District in 1939 and 1940. The project is located near the northern edge of the San Fernando Valley on Tujunga Wash, about one mile below the confluence of the Big Tujunga Wash  Sports Complex for a chance to hit a baseball at Dodger Stadium     [ .

At the fourth of five scheduled events this year, Los Angeles-area children, ages 6-14, took part in a baseball clinic Noun 1. baseball clinic - a meeting at which baseball players receive special evaluation and instruction; "a summer baseball clinic for promising young players"

"The Power Hitter events have really flourished over the past three years. Each summer, the program becomes more and more popular with the community, as hundreds of children receive the opportunity to meet with and learn from current and former Dodger players."

Today's competition took place from 10 a.m. to noon at Hansen Dam Sports Complex in Lakeview Terrace.

The kids attending the DWP Power Hitter event participated in hitting, pitching, catching and fielding clinics -- receiving tips from Dodger players and coaches.

The children were divided into three age categories (6-8, 9-11, 12-14) and received three chances to hit a ball the farthest during the Power Hitter Competition. Winners from each age group will compete head to head in a final Power Hitter competition held at Dodger Stadium later in the season.

The Power Hitter Competition is one of many efforts the DWP participates in to show its continued support to the community and the children of Los Angeles.

The DWP serves more than 3.7 million people in Los Angeles and was established almost 100 years ago to provide the water and electric services to Los Angeles residents and businesses. The DWP is a recognized local and national leader in sponsoring programs to enhance the success of the youth of Los Angeles.
