DWL Incorporated, a leading e-solutions company, today announced with Andersen Consulting, (which will be renamed Accenture on 01/01/01) and Sun Microsystems, plans to deliver real-time mobile solutions using handheld computers from Palm, Inc. The companies will initially target the insurance and financial services industries and later the consumer products and retail markets.

Intended for use by insurance adjusters in the field, the solution, supported by the Palm OS(r) platform, would allow adjusters to access real-time data about recently assigned claims and customers' policies remotely via the PalmVII series handheld or any Palm handheld using the Mobile Internet Kit with the Palm.net(r) service. Using the wireless handhelds, the adjuster could review and update existing information in the insurance company's claim database. With this technology, an adjuster could be dispatched to a recent accident and, with the handheld and a real-time connection to the insurance company's database, quickly verify the accident and claim information.

The mobile adjuster solution is developed on DWL's transactional e-enablement platform, DWL Unifi(tm), an open platform that supports leading edge Enterprise JavaBean(tm) (EJB(tm)) and XML-based technologies. Supported by Palm Inc.'s Palm VII series handheld or any Palm handheld using the Mobile Internet Kit with the Palm.Net(r) service, and Sun Microsystem's scalable and secure Sun Solaris(tm) Operating Environment and servers, the mobile adjuster solution is the first DWL proof of concept to showcase the combined technology capabilities for an end-to-end wireless solution in the insurance sector.
