DWE's 4th Emarati Leaders Gathering to Focus on 'Violence against Women'.

Dubai Women Establishment (DWE) will present the fourth session of the Emarati Leaders Gathering (ELG) on November 12, 2009 at the Palace Hotel, at 11am.

The gathering of influential women leaders will focus on the theme "Violence Against Women -- Roots and Implications," and will feature key speakers Afra Al Basti - Executive Director of the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children; Dr. Suad Al Marzouqi - Assistant Professor Clinical Psychology, UAE University Psychology Department; and Abdul Salam Darwish -- Head of Family Reconciliation at Dubai Court, who will discuss the issue from social, psychological and legal perspectives. The discussion will be moderated by Aisha Al Suwaidi - Director of DWE Women Leadership Development Department.

"While previous sessions of the ELG have focused on celebrating the accomplishments of women leaders and sharing their experiences and insights on their journeys toward success, DWE is equally interested in exploring challenges and difficulties that continue to oppose development in the lives of many other women, with violence continuing to be a significant issue in many families and communities," says Al Suwaidi. "While highlighting success already achieved is admirable, it is equally important to bring some of these unfortunate issues out into the light where their causes can be discussed and possible solutions evaluated and recommended," she added.

DWE launched the Emirati Leaders Gathering as a platform to exchange ideas, research findings, case studies and inspirational success stories within its strategy to support UAE working women and enhance their position and participation in the development of their society. The purpose of the Emarati Leaders Gathering is to enable successful leaders to share their knowledge and experiences in order that others may learn from them. Previous sessions of the Emarati Leaders Gathering have hosted a number of local and international women leaders, such as Maitha Al Shamsi, UAE Minister of State; Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State in the Cabinet of the UAE; Dr Mona Al Bahar, Assistant Professor and Dr. Fatma Al Sayegh, Associate Professor at the United Arab Emirates University, and a number of members of the UAE Federal National Council. 2009 Al Bawaba (www.albawaba.com)
