THE PLAGUE DOGS (PG, pounds 12.99) *** Richard Adams, who penned the classic Watership Down, brings us another entertaining tale about animals in distress. Brought to life through superb oldstyle animation, the story features two canine pals (voiced by John Hurt and Christopher Benjamin) who escape from a government-run laboratory only to find themselves threatened by the outside world. Heartfelt and often quite harrowing, this will appeal to a wide audience, but younger children should stay clear. The disc features an alternative extended version.
