DVDS: MONKEY BUSINESS; DVD OF THE WEEK THE JUNGLE BOOK (U, pounds 21.99) *****.

It is 40 years since the world was first introduced to Walt Disney's version of man-cub Mowgli. Now, in true moneymaking style, the film has been all cleaned up with sparkly spark·ly

They've used some process that involves the original film negative and various machines. The man in charge of the clean-up explained it, but my brain was too busy singing, "Ooo be-do, I want to be like youhoo-hoo" to take it all in.

That's the trouble with The Jungle Book. Show it to kids and they'll be singing the songs all day. Watch it yourself and they'll be bouncing around your head for weeks. The songs, not the kids. That would just be weird.

If you've never seen this Disney classic (where have you been living? In the middle of a jungle?), it tells the story of young Mowgli, who was raised by wolves Raised by Wolves is an EP by Voxtrot, released in 2005. Track listings

but has to leave his animal friends to avoid the flesh-chomping teeth of the evil tiger Shere Khan.

His lifelong panther pal Bagheera is in charge of taking him to a man village where he can be safe, but Mowgli doesn't want to go and does a runner, bumping into numerous animals along the way.

They include hypnotic snake Kaa and lively orangutan King Louie. My favourite is the adorable baby elephant who, with his Beatle-style haircut, is perhaps one of the cutest cartoon characters ever.

, I love it too, despite the fact I made a numpty of myself yesterday by unwittingly humming aloud one of the songs while queuing to buy a skirt.

The many DVD extras make this even more of a must-buy. For adults and older kids, the featurettes include an interview with the now adult voice of Mowgli (who, bizarrely, works as a wildlife cameraman) and a documentary on how Walt Disney transformed Kipling's literary classic into a cartoon.

There are also sketches of a deleted character, Rocky the rhino, and numerous unused songs, lots of games and activities, plus the now obligatory Disneypedia educational programme, which this time shows the real-life animals behind the film.

All in all, this is a fantastic DVD. Just don't let your kids watch it before taking them somewhere in a car - Jungle Book songs inside a small metal box on wheels aren't a good mix.
