DVD redefines filmmakers-parents relationship.

MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 17, 1997--"DVD Content-Customization empowers parents to wrestle control from filmmakers over motion-picture content viewed by children," said Max Abecassis, Nissim Corp.'s chairman.

Content-Customization automatically and seamlessly skips segments a parent would have found inappropriate for his/her child.

With Warner Brother's release of DVDs, Nissim has invited directors, such as Steven Spielberg, to participate in the creation of the content-maps that will enable Content-Customization software to play DVDs according to each viewer's preferences for the level of explicitness -- none, implied, explicit, or graphic -- in each of over a dozen content categories including violence, sexuality, substance abuse, and vulgarity.

Nissim's invitation also stated that, in those instances where the participation of the filmmaker in the timely preparation of a content-map is not possible, Nissim will unilaterally prepare the content-map. "With or without the participation of the filmmakers, Nissim is committed to serving parents and their children," Abecassis said.

Content-Customization provides a compelling service, the need for which has been clearly established by the passage of V-chip legislation and the public's overwhelming preference for a content-based TV rating system. The U.S. Congress found that parents "strongly support technology that would give them greater control to block video programming in the home that they consider harmful to their children."

"Unfortunately, and perhaps appropriately, many parents are reluctant to expose their children to the theatrical version of 'Schindler's List'. Content-Customization will enable more parents to encourage their children to learn from important works," said Abecassis.

In the MPAA's "The Voluntary Movie Rating System," Jack Valenti states that shortly after he became president of the MPAA: "My first move was to abolish the old and decaying Hays Production Code." "Random-access digital technologies render the MPAA rating system as obsolete in 1997 as the Hays Production Code was 30 years ago," said Abecassis.

"Content-Customization requires the kind of vision and intellectual courage that the Warner brothers exemplified with the 1927 introduction of 'The Jazz Singer'," said Abecassis; predicting: "in due course, Content-Customization will be acclaimed as the most revolutionary advancement in motion pictures since the talkies replaced silent films."

The Nissim Content-Customization Software (US$49) will be made available through Nissim's Web site or by mail and will run in selected DVD capable devices.

Content-Customization technologies are the subject of U.S. patents 5434678, 5589945, and 5610653, allowed and pending patent applications, copyrights and trademarks. "DVD Content-Customization is the first of technologies that will make the zeros and ones dance as viewers would want to see them dance," promised Abecassis. Nissim, with a strategic partner, will market in 1998, a Multimedia Player that will enable viewers to timeshift and Content-Customize motion pictures received from Digital Broadcast Satellites.
