Investigators conducting the two identical AK phase III Noun 1. phase III - a large clinical trial of a treatment or drug that in phase I and phase II has been shown to be efficacious with tolerable side effects; after successful conclusion of these clinical trials it will receive formal approval from the FDA  trials at 16 sites across the U.S. have now enrolled and treated a total of more than 200 patients, each with 4 to 15 AKs, for a total of between 800 and 3,000 AKs. Each patient is followed after treatment for 3 months to determine safety and efficacy, including a re-treatment if necessary after 8 weeks. In Phase II studies, DUSA has previously reported up to 90 to 100% complete clinical clearance of AKs with Levulan PDT, using one or two treatments respectively. Although these and other Phase II trials do not guarantee similar results in Phase III, the Company is optimistic about the outcome of the current trials(1).
