DURST RECEIVES AWARD FOR CONSTRUCTION INNOVATION.The Greater New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of Construction User Council (GNYCUC) of the Business Roundtable Business Roundtable (BRT), an association consisting of the chief executive officers of major U.S. corporations that was founded in 1972 through the merger of the three preexisting business organizations. presented the 1999 award, for Construction Innovation to Douglas Durst, president, and Jody Durst, executive vice president of The Durst Organization, Inc., which developed the Conde Nast Building at 4 Times Square, recognized as one of the nation's most environmentally and technologically advanced buildings. Designed by architects Fox & Fowle, and built by Tishman Construction, 4 Times Square building maintains an environmentally responsible design, with non-renewable energy consumption at only 59 percent of what a conventional building 10 years earlier would have used. The 48-story building, comprised of 1.6 million square feet, is the first project of its size to adopt state-of-the-art standards for energy conservation, indoor environmental quality, recycling systems and the use of sustainable materials. Environmental advancements include air conditioning systems with no HCFCs HCFCs: see chlorofluorocarbons. The IAQ may be compromised by microbial contaminants (mold, bacteria), chemicals (such as carbon monoxide, radon), allergens, or any mass or energy stressor ; energy efficient lighting; water conserving plumbing fixtures; chutes for paper and wet trash; and energy efficient low "e" glass to filter out unwanted ultraviolet and near-infrared light to minimize heat loss or gain. Aside from its environmental advances, the Conde Nast Building at 4 Times Square utilizes a sophisticated electronic systems and satellite communications capabilities.
