 DURACELL U.S.A. APPOINTS KIERNAN PRESIDENT
 BETHEL, Conn., April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Charles E. Kiernan, 47, has


been appointed president of Duracell U.S.A. Kiernan will report to Charles R. Perrin, president and chief operating officer of Duracell International Inc. (NYSE: DUR). Kiernan also has been named a vice president of Duracell International Inc.
 Kiernan will oversee manufacturing, marketing, sales, human resource and quality management for the company's domestic operations.
 "Charlie has played a major role in the growth of Duracell U.S.A. and has been key in the development and execution of marketing plans that have solidified Duracell's number one position in the world's largest battery market," said Perrin. "His achievements have the company well-poised for continued growth and expansion," added Perrin.
 Kiernan was a key player in conceptualizing and then bringing to market Duracell's on-pack Copper Top(TM) battery tester in 1990. He most recently served as senior vice president, marketing and manufacturing operations, Duracell U.S.A. He joined Duracell in 1985 after a record of significant accomplishments at several leading consumer packaged goods companies, including Chesebrough Pond's, Yardley of London, and Standard Brands.
 Kiernan lives in Westport, Conn., with his wife, Judie, and their two children.
 In a related move, Duracell U.S.A. also appointed Robert C. Giacolone, 39, vice president, marketing, reporting directly to Kiernan. Giacolone will be responsible for overseeing the major alkaline cells, technical support, trade marketing, specialty brands and information services divisions of Duracell U.S.A.
 Giacolone joined Duracell in 1983 and has had direct responsibility for marketing the alkaline battery business for seven years. He has directed the successful evolution of Duracell's "Toys" advertising campaigns and was instrumental in the launch of Duracell's Copper Top Tester.
 Giacolone lives in Newtown, Conn., with his wife, Laurel, and their two children.
 Duracell International Inc., the global leader in manufacturing and marketing of consumer alkaline batteries, is based in Bethel, Conn. The company sells its products primarily under the DURACELL battery brand name.
