    DUPONT MERCK PRESIDENT AND CEO TO JOIN SILICON GRAPHICS BOARD
    MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Silicon Graphics Inc. (NYSE: SGI) announced today that Joseph A. Mollica, Ph.D., has been elected to its board of directors.  The board elected Mollica after a unanimous vote to expand its membership to six directors.
    "Joe Mollica is a recognized leader in the pharmaceutical industry, and we are delighted to have him join our Board of Directors," said Edward R. McCracken, president and chief executive officer of Silicon Graphics. With Dr. Mollica's leadership experience at Ciba-Geigy and DuPont, as well as his current entrepreneurial role, we look forward to benefitting from his counsel and participation in this rapidly changing and growing marketplace."
    Dr. Mollica, 51, is president and chief executive officer of the DuPont Merck Pharmaceutical Co. in Wilmington, Del.  He was appointed to head the company, a partnership of DuPont and Merck & Co. Inc., when it was formed in January of 1991.  DuPont Merck is expected to generate revenues of more than $700 million this year, with revenues expected to exceed $2 billion in the next decade.  Prior to the formation of DuPont Merck, Dr. Mollica served as vice president, medical products at DuPont.  He joined DuPont in 1987 as director of pharmaceuticals and biotechnology research and development for the Medical Products Department.
    Prior to joining DuPont, Dr. Mollica was a senior vice president of drug development in the Pharmaceuticals Division of Ciba-Geigy Corp.  He joined Ciba-Geigy in 1966 and was promoted through a variety of technical and management positions in research and development.
    Dr. Mollica earned a doctorate and a master's degree in pharmaceutical and physical chemistry from the University of Wisconsin, and a bachelor's degree from the University of Rhode Island.  He is a member of the board of directors of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association, the PMA Foundation, the U.S. Pharmacopeal Convention and the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy.
