DUPONT CHINA HOLDING CO. LTD. ANNOUNCES JOINT VENTURE WITH DONGGUAN SOUTH ELECTRONIC CORPORATION

BEIJING, Dec. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- DuPont China Holding Co. Ltd. will form a joint venture to manufacture electronic materials for microcircuits to help accelerate growth in China's electronics industry.
With a total investment of more than $13 million, the joint venture with Dongguan South Electronic Corporation will produce thick film compositions used in the manufacture of hybrid circuits and electronic components for automotive, telecommunication, computer and other high-precision, high-technology applications.
A new plant, expected to be the most advanced manufacturing facility of its kind in China, will start up in the third quarter of 1995. It will replicate the state-of-the-art facilities at other DuPont Microcircuit Materials plants in the United Kingdom, United States, Puerto Rico and Japan. The plant also will feature technical service and research and development capabilities.
"This new venture -- DuPont's first electronics joint venture in China -- demonstrates our strong commitment to helping China's economic development by strengthening its industrial base," said John C. Hodgson, global managing director-Microcircuit and Component Materials, at contract signing ceremonies here today.
"A number of our customers worldwide are now forming joint ventures in China," he said. "We are going to provide them the same high quality materials in China as we do elsewhere in the world."
The plant will be located in Dongguan, Guangdong province near Hong Kong. "Dongguan is a natural choice since the area is well equipped with the infrastructure for electronic materials manufacturing," said Dick Liu, president of DuPont China Holding Co., Ltd. "It also is one of the centers of the electronics industry in China and will bring us closer to our customers.
"We are planning sufficient capacity to meet both current and anticipated needs of the growing electronic materials market in China," Liu added.
Ground will be broken for the plant in the second quarter of next year. It will employ 50 to 100 people when fully operational.
Like DuPont's other microcircuit facilities, the plant will be designed to be ISO 9000 certified. In addition, it will be environmentally sound, using non-CFC refrigeration and cleaning systems.
DuPont is the global leader in thick film compositions for ceramic circuits and components and is one of the largest and most diversified suppliers of materials, components and services to the global electronics industry. Currently, DuPont has two manufacturing ventures in China -- one wholly owned facility at Shenzhen for slitting "Riston" photopolymer film and "Tyvek" spunbonded olefin, and one joint-venture at Shanghai to produce "Londax" rice herbicide.
DuPont (NYSE: DD) is a research-based global company that offers advanced technologies and products such as petroleum, chemicals, polymers and fibers.
