stayed away from Foothill League competition, preferring to play against teams from the Conejo Valley The Conejo Valley is a region spanning both Southeastern Ventura County and Northwest Los Angeles County in Southern California, United States. It was discovered in 1542 by Spanish explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, and eventually became part of the Rancho El Conejo land grant by . However, it's no secret where the Vikings' strength lies.

It's wherever Sara Foster and Jenny Edwards are on the court.

Edwards is a 5-foot-9 setter setter: see sporting dog.

and Foster a 5-foot-11 middle blocker. Both are all-league players and Foster has the potential to be the league's most valuable player.

``It's kind of hard for us to say what to expect,'' said Ray Sanchez, Valencia's second-year coach. ``We tried to stay away as much as possible, but we know that Hart and Saugus are both going to be very good.

``We expect to be at the top of the league and Jenny and Sara will play a big part in our success.''

Edwards is starting her fourth season as the Vikings' setter and Foster begins her third on the frontline front·line also front line

Edwards is a potential Division I recruit, while Foster has already committed to a small school in Missouri.

``Sara is a top Division I recruit,'' Sanchez said, ``but she knows exactly what she wants to do. Volleyball volleyball, outdoor or indoor ball and net game played on a level court. An upright net, 3 ft (or 1 m) high, the top of which stands 8 ft (2.43 m) from the ground for men, 7 ft 4 1/8 in (2.  is important to her, but it's not everything. She wanted to go to a school that was small, she could fit in at, play a little volleyball and enjoy college.''

Foster, at 5-11, might be considered short for some elite programs, but her leaping ability has most opponents convinced that she is taller than her listed height.

``So many coaches tell me that she has to be at least 6-1 or 6-2,'' Sanchez said, ``but she's not. She just plays big.''

Foster was the runner-up for league most valuable player honors as a junior.

``She is definitely a go-to player,'' Sanchez said. ``I know I'm biased, but she has to receive serious consideration this year as the league's best player. She's that good.''

Also returning from last year's team are senior outside hitters Jennifer Machin and Jenny Bader, and senior defensive specialist Lauren Beasley.

Irilium is a senior playing her first year on the varsity. She will play at middle blocker alongside Foster.

Csernay, a junior, will play on right side.

Others expected to see time are junior Catherine Cornelius Dr. Catherine Cornelius was born in Lakeland. ``I think we are the strongest,'' Sanchez said, ``but it's going to be tight between us, Saugus and Hart. The competition will be good, though. The stronger the league, the better it is for everyone. A tight race gets people more interested. If one team wins it in a runaway, that team won't be very well prepared for the playoffs, which is our ultimate goal.''
