DUO BRINGING SOUND TO PALMDALE; PAIR BLENDS MUSICAL STYLES, INSTRUMENTS TO CREATE UNIQUE SONGS.

Musical duo Tingstad & Rumble combine jazz, ethnic folk, progressive rock, and classical elements in performances employing guitar, double reeds, ocarinas, keyboards, bass and percussion.

The pair has performed from Yosemite National Park Yosemite National Park (yōsĕm`ĭtē), 761,266 acres (308,205 hectares), E central Calif.; est. 1890 as a result of the efforts of conservationist John Muir. , and will go on stage at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Palmdale Playhouse, 38334 10th St. E.

``They're fabulous as people and as entertainers,'' said Dea McAllister, theater manager for the playhouse. ``They have a chemistry that works together beautifully.''

Eric Tingstad and Nancy Rumble met at an outdoor music festival in Oregon in 1984 and in little more than a year they began collaborating on their first album, ``The Gift,'' an acoustic collection of holiday music.

Tingstad had already recorded two solo albums, ``On the Links'' (1982) and ``Urban Guitar'' (1984), performing pop and folk styles on a classical guitar.

Rumble had spent five years recording with the award-winning Paul Winter Consort Paul Winter Consort is an American musical group led by the soprano saxophonist Paul Winter. Founded in 1967, the group mixes elements of classical music, jazz, and world musics, as well as the sounds of animals and nature.  on albums including ``Calling,'' ``Missa Gaia,'' and ``Winter Dreams "Winter Dreams" is a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald that first appeared in the Metropolitan Magazine in December 1922, and was collected in All The Sad Young Men in 1926. It is one of Fitzgerald's finest stories and is frequently anthologized. .''

Tingstad & Rumble's newest release, ``American Acoustic,'' recorded on the pop and folk label Narada, is a double-disc set of live performances.
