DUKE POWER CUSTOMERS SET NEW WINTER PEAK

 CHARLOTTE, N.C., Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Duke Power (NYSE: DUK) customers set a new winter demand for electricity, 13,623 megawatts, for the hour ending 8 a.m. today.
 The previous Duke Power winter record of 13,314 megawatts was set on Feb. 19, 1993.
 "We are pleased to be able to meet our customers' demand throughout the cold weather," said William Sands, manager of energy control. "As the cold weather remains in the Piedmont Carolinas, Duke will continue to use the generating mix of nuclear, fossil and hydro to meet customer needs."
 Duke'S all-time record for customer demand was set July 29, 1993 with 15,720 megawatts.
