 DUKE POWER ANNOUNCES FISHERIES HABITAT GRANT PROGRAM
 CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Duke Power Co. (NYSE: DUK) today announced a special challenge grant program that will fund fisheries conservation and habitat projects in the company's service territory.
 The company's Fisheries Habitat Grant Program, funded by The Duke Power Co. Foundation through shareholder funds, will encourage partnerships among public and private conservation organizations, corporations, individuals and government agencies.
 "Duke Power is committed to providing environmental leadership throughout the Piedmont Carolinas," said Bill Grigg, vice chairman of Duke Power and president of The Duke Power Co. Foundation. "This program, along with the future efforts of wildlife organizations, is indicative of our commitment to environmental excellence."
 Grants will range from $50 to $1,500, with The Duke Power Co. Foundation committing up to a maximum of $10,000 to the program. Grants will not be awarded to support advocacy, litigation, budget shortfalls or overhead.
 Each organization interested in the grant program must submit a detailed proposal of its program, which must also have the recommendation of independent wildlife organizations.
 Proposals will be accepted through Jan. 15, 1993, with final approvals being issued by mid-April 1993.
