DUDLEY P. SHEFFLER ELECTED TO RELIANCE ELECTRIC BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 CLEVELAND, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Reliance Electric Company (NYSE: REE) today announced that the board of directors elected Dudley P. Sheffler, president, Reliance Comm/Tec and vice president, Reliance Electric Company, to the Reliance Electric board of directors seat being vacated by L. J. Hendrix Jr., effective Nov. 1, 1993.
 Sheffler, 49, joined Reliance in 1970 as controller at the company's Ashtabula, Ohio, motor plant. Since then, Sheffler has served in a variety of plant, division and operating group assignments before becoming a group general manager in 1979. Sheffler became president, Reliance Comm/Tec in 1981. Sheffler has a B.S. from the University of Kentucky and an MBA from the University of Michigan.
 Reliance Electric Company, headquartered in Cleveland, designs, manufactures, sells and services a broad range of industrial and telecommunications equipment and had 1992 annual sales in excess of $1.5 billion. Reliance operates 47 manufacturing plants worldwide in nine countries and employs approximately 14,000 people.
