ANAHEIM - Thanks to a pair of impressive showings in back-to-back road games, Anaheim once again finds itself in a position to jump back into the playoff race in the NHL's Western Conference.

The Ducks began a key three-game homestand Wednesday night by losing 1-0 in overtime to the Vancouver Canucks The Vancouver Canucks are a professional ice hockey team based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. They are members of the Northwest Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). They joined the NHL as an expansion team in 1970.  in front of 9,570 at the Pond.

``It's a very frustrating way to end it,'' said Anaheim goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere, who stopped 37 shots. ``In the end, maybe (Vancouver) wanted it a little bit more than we did.''

The Ducks (9-17-4-2) did earn a point with the tie in regulation. And they once again played a highly responsible defensive game in front of Giguere.

Giguere has allowed just two goals in the past three games (also against Calgary and Colorado) and he has stopped 88 of 90 shots. The Ducks are 1-0-1-1 in those games.

Offensively, however, Anaheim was unable get anything past Vancouver goalie Dan Cloutier Dan Cloutier (born on April 22, 1976 in Mont-Laurier, PQ, CAN) is a professional ice hockey goaltender with the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League (AHL). . ``We play hard, we play good defense, and we're responsible for the most part. However, we don't score a goal. It's disappointing when you're not rewarded.''

The Ducks recorded 26 shots, including one by German Titov that hit the goal post 21 seconds before Jovaovski won the game.

The best scoring chance by either team in regulation came with 16:04 left in the third period when Anaheim right wing Dan Bylsma Dan Bylsma (born 19 September, 1970, in Grand Haven, Michigan) is a former National Hockey League forward. Bylsma, the team's reliable penalty kill specialist, blocked a shot in the Vancouver zone during a power play. Bylsma chased down the shot at center ice and was off on a clean breakaway. However, the Canucks' Brendan Morrison caught up the not-so-fleet skating Bylsma and kept him from getting off a shot by wrapping him up.
