Kariya had two assists. Colorado took a 1-0 lead on Peter Forsberg's power-play goal with 8:44 left in the second period. Ducks goalie Martin Gerber stopped Alex Tanguay's shot from the slot, but the rebound slid right to Forsberg for an easy tap-in. Sakic nearly scored a last-second power-play goal in the first period. But his shot went past Gerber after the period-ending buzzer had sounded. Prospal got the Ducks even less than three minutes later, and Rucchin gave them the lead with a power-play goal with 1:29 left in the period.
