and Dustin Penner Dustin Penner (born September 28, 1982 in Winkler, Manitoba) is a professional ice hockey forward currently playing for the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League. Penner was never drafted; he was discovered and signed as a free agent by the then Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , among others.

After he didn't make the team, Poitras went back to McGill University in Montreal and was close to completing his degree in mechanical engineering when the Ducks rushed him back yesterday to suit up for today's practice.

"We feel we need a third goalie for practice as we go forward," head coach Randy Carlyle said, "and all our (minor-league) goaltenders under contract are still playing."

Carter makes progress

Center Ryan Carter reported progress recovering from a broken wrist, which he tested in practice for the first time on Tuesday. After the team got a day off practice Wednesday, he added contact drills to his repertoire for the first Thursday.

Soon to unmask

Chris Pronger removed the mouth shield from his helmet for the first time since breaking his jaw in a game Feb. 24. Pronger said he'd wear it for the season finale Sunday.
