The Ducks needed 84 minutes 30seconds to beat Luongo and the Canucks, 2-1, and advance to the conference final for the third time in four seasons.

The Ducks will meet the winner of the Detroit Red Wings-San Jose Sharks series, which is deadlocked at two games apiece. Game 5 is Saturday in Detroit.

Scott Niedermayer's flip from the left point 4:30 into the second overtime somehow eluded Luongo for the winner.

Samuel Pahlsson scored early in the second period for the Ducks. Alex Burrows countered for the Canucks midway through the third.

The Ducks held a 47-21 edge in shots on net heading to overtime, then tried to win the game in the first few minutes of the first extra period when they looked up to find Dany Sabourin Dany Sabourin (born September 2, 1980 in Val d'Or, Quebec) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who plays in the National Hockey League for the Pittsburgh Penguins.  in net instead of Luongo. No explanation was immediately available.

Sabourin, who beat the Ducks in February, stopped all five shots he faced before Luongo returned after 3:34. The goalies shared a quiet moment amid the din and press box wits suggested Sabourin had said, "What took you so long?"

Luongo then resumed his remarkable play in net, stopping nine shots in the first overtime as the Ducks increased their overall lead to 61-25.

The Ducks had broken their franchise playoff record of 54 set during a five-overtime victory over the Dallas Stars in Game 1 of the conference semifinals in 2003.

It took a gritty play by the Ducks to beat Luongo in the second period. Pahlsson gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead 14 seconds into the second, punching home a rebound after a goalmouth goal·mouth
