The Ducks, riding a franchise-record, five-game winning streak, picked up Baumgartner on Wednesday from the Toronto Maple Leafs The Toronto Maple Leafs are a professional ice hockey team based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. They are members of the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL).  in exchange for a fourth-round selection in this summer's entry draft.

A day earlier, the Ducks got Anatoli Semenov and the rights to defenseman Mike Crowley from the Philadelphia Flyers for right wing Brian Wesenberg.

"I'm really excited," Baumgartner said of the trade. "It's a great move for my family.

"My wife and I lived in the Los Angeles area before, so this will be exciting going there with kids. And all those Ducks fans were Kings fans when I was there so they will remember me."

Baumgartner played three seasons for the Kings in the late 1980s. The Ducks now have Baumgartner and Todd Ewen to protect scorers Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne.

The draft pick the Ducks sent to the Maple Leafs originally belonged to Winnipeg and was obtained by the Ducks as part of the Selanne trade.

Formed as an expansion team before the start of the 1993-'94 season, the Ducks are 10-5-1 since acquiring Selanne from the Jets on Feb. 7, moving them within one point of Winnipeg in the race for the eighth and final Western Conference playoff berth.

Baumgartner, a 30-year-old left winger, has two goals, three assists and 152 penalty minutes this year with the Leafs. Known as an enforcer, he became expendable when Toronto acquired Wendel Clark and Nick Kypreos earlier this month to go along with Tie Domi.

In 200 career games with Toronto, Baumgartner has 14 points and 520 penalty minutes.
