. They did everything but win.

Paul Kariya Paul Tetsuhiko Kariya (born October 16, 1974 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada), is a professional ice hockey player who plays for the St. Louis Blues. Personal life  scored the winner and assisted on Teemu Selanne's goal as the Mighty Ducks beat the Oilers 2-1 Wednesday night.

``I don't think any line can watch us for a full 60 minutes,'' Selanne said. ``There's going to be a time when we can do our damage. We didn't play well but we found a way to win. They were better than us.''

Kariya broke a 1-1 tie with 5:04 left in the third period when he took a drop pass from Steve Rucchin just inside the Edmonton blue line and fired a slap shot over goalie Steve Passmore's glove.

For the second straight game, the Oilers outplayed their opponent but lost 2-1 in the dying moments.

``You're not going to win too many games scoring one goal and that was the case again tonight,'' said Oilers forward Pat Falloon, who set up Rem Murray for Edmonton's goal.

``For the last three games we've outplayed our opponents but haven't been able to bury the puck. We have to stay positive and keep shooting the puck and have the idea it will eventually go in.''

The win left the Oilers tied with the Calgary Flames for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Calgary and the Buffalo Sabres played to a 2-2 tie Wednesday night.

The Oilers outshot the Mighty Ducks 33-24, including 16-5 in the first period, but couldn't convert their chances.

The game was scoreless until 11:12 of the third period, when Selanne took a pass from Kariya and one-timed a shot past Passmore from inside the blue line.

The Oilers tied it a little more than a minute later when Murray tipped Falloon's pass over the stick of Anaheim goalie Dominic Roussel.
